It’s so important that you understand what it means when you attribute what God is doing through a man to the devil—or when you speak or say anything negative about that person.
Yesterday, I shared with you about Miriam and Aaron speaking against Moses in Numbers 12. They spoke against Moses. The Bible says Moses was a very meek man—he didn’t say anything. Moses never responded to Miriam and Aaron, but the Lord did. If you read Numbers 12 from verse 3, you will see what happened.
Numbers 12:3–4 (KJV)
3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) 4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses...
Moses didn’t say anything, but the Lord spoke—even though Moses was silent while they criticized him. It’s actually very dangerous when a man of God doesn’t say anything about what you’re saying or isn’t even aware of it. I’ll show you more so you’ll see what I mean.
Numbers 12:4–9 (KJV)
4 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
God came, spoke, and left. Normally, you do not know the kind of relationship a particular man of God has with God. God said, “There are others I speak to in visions and dreams, but this particular man I speak to mouth to mouth.”
You don’t know who you’re talking about. If you see them on TV doing something you don’t understand or don’t like, just switch the channel and watch something else. You’re better off not saying anything bad about them. The more you speak against them, the more you invite trouble into your life.
Numbers 12:10 (KJV)
And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
Miriam was complaining about how dark or black the Ethiopian woman Moses married was. So God said, in essence, “If you want to talk about color, then you’ll become whiter than you are.” Miriam became completely white with leprosy.
There are many people today who experience similar consequences spiritually. Leprosy causes the loss of parts of your body—your fingers wear off, your feet wear off gradually, even your lips. In the same way, many people are doing things that should produce results but are not producing any results because they have spoken against a man of God. They’ve said terrible things, and as a result, whatever they touch doesn’t work.
There are men of God who pray certain kinds of prayers, which makes it extremely dangerous to speak against them. It’s very important to be careful—otherwise, you may find “leprosy” in your life. You’ll realize that things are not working as they should, even though you are a child of God.
Never say anything bad about a man of God. There are so many examples in Scripture I could show you.
Michal and David
When you read 2 Samuel 6:20–23, there’s another example involving David, the man of God, and his wife Michal. Michal spoke against David because he was dancing before the Ark of the Lord, celebrating and enjoying himself until he became a little exposed. Michal criticized him for it.
David responded that he was dancing before the Lord, not before men. The Bible says Michal despised David in her heart. She criticized David—and the result was that her womb was closed. She could not bear fruit or increase because she spoke against David.
That’s exactly what happens to many people today. Because they talk against a man of God, their progress is shut down.
Even though this is not the unpardonable sin, it is still a very dangerous thing to do.
